High humidity: measure first, then dehumidify
Condensation on windows, damp laundry and consistently high hygrometer readings are common reasons to consider a dehumidifier in autumn. Germanyâs Federal Environment Agency gives roughly 40â60% relative humidity as a general guide for living spaces. This is a reference range, not a substitute for checking cold outside walls, thermal bridges or water damage.
This selection compares electric compressor dehumidifiers rated at 10â20 litres per day for heated living spaces. Moisture-absorbing granules, building dryers, air purifiers and specialist cold-basement appliances serve different purposes. A high reading should prompt you to check the moisture source and ventilation before choosing the largest machine.
Important measurement limit: manufacturer ratings often come from warmer, more humid conditions than a normal living room. A â20 litres per dayâ appliance will usually collect substantially less water at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity. Manufacturer figures and independent test results are therefore identified separately.
How FitRecover established this ranking
Our editorial criteria are everyday usefulness in heated rooms, documentation for the precise variant, ease of control, tank and drainage design, laundry drying, transparency of energy and noise figures, ongoing costs and independent reviews. The order reflects a disclosed qualitative judgement. FitRecover does not claim its own laboratory tests or a verified numerical overall score.
F.A.Z. Kaufkompass published its own measurements and selected the Bosch Dry 4000 as its winner. Stiftung Warentest reported on British Which? results in 2026; those test groups do not cover every model listed here. Where a relevant independent test is missing, that limitation is identified in the profile. Manufacturer ratings are not independent measurements.
Different test conditions mean litre, watt and decibel figures are not automatically comparable between manufacturers. Amazon commissions and changing retailer prices do not determine this order.
Large water tanks and straightforward functions
A larger tank can reduce emptying during longer laundry sessions. This does not establish efficiency at actual room temperature. Check continuous-drainage options and noise in quiet hours as well as tank size.
For clear basic functions
Eurom DryBest 20 (370980)

A conventional 20-litre dehumidifier with a 5-litre tank for users who prioritise straightforward controls.
- Extraction
- up to 20 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- 5 l
- Noise
- max. 47 dB(A) according to the manufacturer
- Operating range
- 5â35 °C according to the manufacturer
Eurom documents a 5-litre tank, adjustable humidistat, castors and optional continuous drainage for the DryBest 20. Its 20-litre rating does not automatically apply at 20 °C and moderate humidity. The manufacturer lists an operating range starting at 5 °C, but a compressor collects less water at low temperatures and defrost cycles can reduce net extraction. A large tank adds convenience without guaranteeing extraction efficiency per kilowatt-hour.
Who is it for? People seeking a straightforward 20-litre unit without Wi-Fi.
Who is it less suited to? Noise-sensitive workspaces or bedrooms, and very cool rooms.
Why rank 10? A useful basic concept with less detailed independent comparative evidence.
+ Advantages
- 5-litre water tank
- Manual humidistat and timer
- Documented EU product number and EAN
â Drawbacks and limits
- Up to 47 dB(A) may be intrusive in quiet rooms
- Do not expect maximum laboratory extraction at 5 °C
- Limited comparable independent measurements for this version
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
For straightforward laundry routines
Klarstein DryFy 20L/24h White (10046367)

A 20-litre model with a humidistat and timer; its product number helps distinguish it from related versions.
- Extraction
- up to 20 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- 4.5 l in the manufacturerâs page title
- Functions
- Humidistat and timer
- Version
- white, product 10046367
This DryFy entry refers specifically to the white version with product number 10046367. The manufacturerâs page lists a 20-litre daily rating and describes a 4.5-litre tank in its title. Other retailer descriptions can give different tank and noise figures, so specifications should be checked for the exact version. Pay particular attention to colour, tank capacity and equipment when comparing offers.
Who is it for? Users seeking a humidity target and timer without a large app ecosystem.
Who is it less suited to? People whose main priority is quiet bedroom operation.
Why rank 9? Many functions on paper, but weaker consistency of published data and independent measurements than for higher-ranked models.
+ Advantages
- Humidistat, timer and full-tank shut-off
- 20-litre rated extraction class
- Clearly identified product number and colour
â Drawbacks and limits
- Tank figures can differ between shops
- Fewer independent measurements for the exact model
- Noise and energy use under everyday conditions are not reliably comparable
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
A large number on the box cannot replace a sensible humidistat setting. When the room is already within the desired range, the appliance should be able to pause automatically.
Compact models for smaller rooms
Smaller living spaces do not necessarily need maximum extraction capacity. Free airflow is more important than body depth alone: a slim appliance squeezed into a niche can work less effectively than a wider one with sufficient clearance.
For occasional use
Woodâs MDX14

A compact compressor dehumidifier with laundry mode, a timer and two fan speeds for smaller heated rooms.
- Extraction
- up to 10 l/24 h (30 °C / 80 % RH)
- Tank
- 1.5 l
- Functions
- Laundry mode, timer
- Noise
- 40â42 dB, manufacturer rating
The MDX14 focuses on smaller heated rooms and modest laundry loads. Woodâs lists 10 litres per day at 30 °C and 80% relative humidity, two fan speeds and a 1.5-litre tank. Extraction stops when the tank is full; a hose connection provides an alternative for safe continuous drainage. A washable dust filter simplifies maintenance. Its compact body saves floor space, but the small tank needs frequent emptying in humid conditions.
Who is it for? Small heated rooms and users who prefer direct controls and simple maintenance.
Who is it less suited to? Large laundry loads or long running periods without tank emptying or continuous drainage.
Why rank 8? Useful basic functions and a compact body; the small tank and limited comparable independent measurements keep it lower in this selection.
+ Advantages
- Compact body with two fan speeds
- Laundry mode and timer
- Washable filter and hose connection
â Drawbacks and limits
- Small 1.5-litre tank
- 10-litre rating under warm, humid test conditions
- Limited directly comparable independent measurements
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
For narrow floor spaces
Olimpia Splendid Aquaria Slim 14 P

A slim alternative for limited floor space that retains the conventional compressor principle.
- Extraction
- up to 14 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Body depth
- approx. 18.5 cm
- Tank
- approx. 2 l
- Technology
- Compressor operation
The Aquaria Slim 14 Pâs shallow body can help with placement. It must still not be wedged tightly between furniture: air intake and outlets need the clearance specified by the manufacturer. Its nominal 14 litres refers to defined test conditions, not guaranteed daily collection in a heated bedroom. Check the exact model, condition and equipment; similarly named Aquaria appliances can differ.
Who is it for? Homes with a suitable narrow space and moderate dehumidification needs.
Who is it less suited to? Households requiring a very large tank or app automation.
Why rank 7? A practical specialist option for narrow spaces, with compromises in tank size and comparative evidence.
+ Advantages
- A slim body with a tangible space advantage
- Medium extraction class
- No intrusive smart-home features
â Drawbacks and limits
- Small tank
- Airflow still needs clearance around the slim body
- No independent direct comparison covering all ten models
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
In bathrooms, electrical protection rating, socket position and splash zones also matter. Marketing references to bathroom use cannot replace the technical protection specifications.
Laundry drying in everyday life
A laundry mode can remove moisture released by drying textiles. It needs a suitable room, adequate air circulation and, for longer sessions, a larger tank or safe drainage.
For larger laundry loads
Pro Breeze Premium 20L (one-click laundry mode)

A large 5.5-litre tank and a 20-litre rating make this an option for regular indoor laundry drying.
- Extraction
- up to 20 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- 5.5 l
- Function
- one-click laundry mode
- Operation
- Compressor, control panel
A 5.5-litre tank can noticeably reduce emptying, provided the roomâs temperature and humidity produce enough condensate. The identified variant has a 20-litre daily rating, laundry mode, a humidistat and the stated tank capacity. Pro Breeze sells similarly named connected and non-connected versions; this comparison covers the Premium version with one-click laundry mode. Continuous drainage through a suitable hose requires a safely positioned drain below the outlet.
Who is it for? Households drying laundry indoors and experiencing frequent condensation in autumn.
Who is it less suited to? Tight spaces or people seeking a particularly lightweight appliance.
Why rank 6? A large tank offers useful everyday capacity, although directly comparable noise and extraction measurements at normal indoor conditions are limited.
+ Advantages
- 5.5-litre tank
- 20-litre maximum rating with laundry mode
- Straightforward controls without a remote-control requirement
â Drawbacks and limits
- Bulky for small rooms
- The rated capacity is not a promised daily yield at 20 °C
- Limited independent comparative measurements for this particular version
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
For traditional household controls
DeâLonghi Tasciugo AriaDry Multi DEXD214RF

A 14-litre model with laundry mode and filtration for users who value brand and service information.
- Extraction
- up to 14 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Model
- DEXD214RF
- Function
- Laundry mode
- Type
- Compressor
The DEXD214RF is documented as a distinct model in the German range. Laundry mode and airflow suited to household use matter more than broad air-cleaning promises. Filter claims should be checked against the exact product number because the DEXD range includes several closely related variants. A dehumidifier also cannot replace appropriate ventilation or repairs addressing the cause of mould.
Who is it for? Households that frequently use the appliance in the same room.
Who is it less suited to? Buyers seeking remote digital controls or substantially larger tanks.
Why rank 5? A middle ground between 12- and 20-litre models with clear model identification; fewer independent measurements than for our top recommendation.
+ Advantages
- Medium extraction class suited to many homes
- Manufacturer documents laundry operation
- Clearly identified German-market variant
â Drawbacks and limits
- A compromise between tank size and extraction class
- No directly comparable measurements of typical power consumption and long-term noise
- Check filter details for the precise DEXD version
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
Do not place wet laundry on the appliance, cover its vents or use an unsecured drain hose. Follow the exact modelâs manual.
Humidistats, timers and connected controls
A properly selected humidity target is the most important automatic control. A timer can supplement it but cannot replace regulation based on moisture levels. For some homes a simple control panel is more useful than extensive app functions.
For small living spaces without Wi-Fi
TROTEC TTK 30 E

A 12-litre model with a humidistat, timer and direct controls, suited to smaller living spaces.
- Extraction
- up to 12 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- approx. 2.2 l
- Controls
- Humidistat, timer
- App
- No Wi-Fi function listed
A compressor sized for the room can be more useful than choosing a 20-litre model by default. The TTK 30 E focuses on a humidity target, control panel, display and timer. It suits people who want to see a result on their hygrometer without passing personal data to an app. Check the exact model number: Trotec sells similarly named appliances with different specifications and refrigerants. Independent recommendation lists may also reflect different editions and publication dates.
Who is it for? Smaller heated rooms where a manually selected humidity target is sufficient.
Who is it less suited to? Very large rooms or unusually heavy moisture loads.
Why rank 4? Straightforward controls for a clearly defined room size; limited capacity for severe damp problems.
+ Advantages
- Direct controls on the appliance
- Timer and humidity target without unnecessary complexity
- A practical option for smaller heated rooms
â Drawbacks and limits
- Small tank
- Lower rated extraction than the 20-litre class
- No large laundry tank for extended unattended use
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
For regular laundry and connected controls
COMFEE MDDF-20DEN7-WF

A 20-litre compressor model with a humidistat, Wi-Fi and additional extraction capacity for laundry days.
- Extraction
- up to 20 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- approx. 3 l
- Controls
- Humidistat and Wi-Fi
- Model
- MDDF-20DEN7-WF
The WF suffix identifies the connected version. A humidistat regulates the humidity target; Wi-Fi supplements the controls on the appliance. Manufacturer documentation lists 20 litres per day, a 3-litre tank and a timer. App users should check compatibility, permissions and any account requirement. The tank is smaller than on some 20-litre alternatives; safely installed continuous drainage can reduce emptying during longer laundry sessions.
Who is it for? Homes with recurring high humidity and a preference for Wi-Fi controls.
Who is it less suited to? People who avoid app accounts or prefer a large 5-litre tank.
Why rank 3? Extra extraction capacity and control options justify a high position, despite limited directly comparable independent measurements.
+ Advantages
- 20-litre class for recurring periods of high humidity
- Automatic regulation towards the chosen humidity target
- On-device controls plus additional Wi-Fi controls
â Drawbacks and limits
- Wi-Fi brings app and privacy considerations
- A smaller tank than on some 20-litre competitors
- No confirmed long-term software-support period
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
For Wi-Fi models, check whether core functions remain available offline, what data the app collects and how long updates are supported. An appâs availability alone does not guarantee long-term support.
Balanced all-round models
The most impressive nominal figures do not automatically win. Everyday priorities include meaningful noise, electricity and water-extraction data, sensible automatic operation and easy handling of the full tank.
For transparent energy data and convenience
MeacoDry Arete Two 20L

A 20-litre model with a 4.8-litre tank, three fan speeds and optional app controls. The manufacturer also provides performance data at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity.
- Extraction

- Example output
- 8.5 l/24 h at 20 °C / 60 % RH
- Tank
- 4.8 l
- Controls
- Control panel; optional app
The Arete Two 20L provides more capacity for recurring damp and laundry days than the smaller 12-litre version. Meaco states up to 8.5 litres per day at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity, with a power consumption of 207 watts. Its 4.8-litre tank reduces emptying frequency. Three fan speeds, humidity regulation, laundry mode and a timer are provided; the app supplements controls on the unit. These figures come from the manufacturer and are not FitRecover measurements.
Who is it for? Households that regularly dry laundry and want a larger tank plus performance figures for typical indoor conditions.
Who is it less suited to? Very small rooms, occasional use or noise-sensitive users when the highest fan speed is running.
Why rank 2? A large tank and well-documented manufacturer data support convenient humidity control; we have not carried out our own comparative test.
+ Advantages
- Performance data at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity
- 4.8-litre tank and three fan speeds
- Laundry mode, timer and optional app controls
â Drawbacks and limits
- 20 litres per day is a rating under specified test conditions

Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
Our all-round recommendation
Bosch Dry 4000 (D4000-EU)

A 16-litre model with three straightforward modes; an independent F.A.Z. review describes a balanced overall package.
- Extraction
- up to 16 l/24 h (manufacturer)
- Tank
- 2.5 l
- Modes
- Automatic, night, laundry
- Noise
- 38 dB(A), manufacturer rating
Bosch offers automatic operation with a selectable humidity target, a night mode and a laundry mode. Controls are on the touch display. Castors and a handle help when moving it; continuous drainage is an alternative to the tank. The additional HEPA/activated-carbon filter is sold separately and should not be assumed to be included. Using its own method, F.A.Z. Kaufkompass measured approximately 45 dB in night mode and 50 dB in laundry mode. These results cannot be directly compared with the manufacturerâs 38 dB claim because settings and measurement conditions differ.
Who is it for? Households seeking automatic humidity control and a laundry mode without registering for an app.
Who is it less suited to? Buyers expecting a programmable timer or a particularly large tank.
Why rank 1? A balance of documented independent testing, straightforward controls and everyday usefulness; this is not a FitRecover laboratory test.
+ Advantages
- Three clear operating modes without an app requirement
- Independent review describes a useful balance of noise, efficiency and controls
- Automatic overflow protection and continuous-drainage option
â Drawbacks and limits
- The 2.5-litre tank needs frequent emptying in humid conditions
- No separate timer, according to F.A.Z. Kaufkompass
- The optional specialist filter adds cost
Manufacturer information: Model documentation. Information date: 14 October 2026.
The final choice still depends on the room. A documented all-rounder cannot be a universal solution for every older building, water-damage problem or very cold basement.
Buying guide: what really matters
1. Identify the cause first
Measure relative humidity at different times of day with a separate hygrometer. Brief, thorough ventilation, appropriate heating and checking thermal bridges can matter more than running an appliance continuously. Visible mould or water ingress requires the source to be addressed; a dehumidifier cannot replace repairs.
2. Read extraction ratings correctly
Figures such as 10, 14 or 20 litres per day describe manufacturersâ test conditions. Actual collection at 20 °C and 60% relative humidity is often substantially lower. Compare conditions and available real measurements rather than the largest number.
3. Compare tanks and continuous drainage
A 2-litre tank may be sufficient for occasional use. Frequent indoor laundry drying can make a larger tank more convenient. A hose only helps if condensate drains safely with adequate downward slope.
4. Judge energy use by useful output
Wattage alone does not measure effectiveness. Water collected per kilowatt-hour under the same conditions is more informative. Humidistat-controlled operation can be more useful than uncontrolled continuous running; blanket cost estimates without a usage profile would be misleading.
5. Understand noise figures
Compressors and fans have different sound characteristics. Manufacturer figures and external measurements vary with distance, mode and surroundings. In bedrooms, available independent measurements matter more than descriptions such as âwhisper quietâ.
6. Operating limits and safe placement
For very cool basements, a desiccant or specialist appliance may be more suitable than a household compressor model. Follow clearance, temperature, upright transport and rest-time instructions. Ensure safe sockets and drainage. Protection rating and placement matter in splash-prone spaces.
7. Apps, maintenance and ongoing costs
Wi-Fi adds convenience rather than being essential to drying. Check registration, permissions, network compatibility, privacy, subscriptions if applicable, filter prices and replacement parts. App availability does not promise years of security updates.
Frequently asked questions
Are 20 litres per day realistic in a living room?
Usually not as a guaranteed daily yield. Such ratings come from specified test conditions, often warmer and more humid than a normal living room.
Should I leave it switched on all the time?
A humidistat can automatically start and stop the appliance according to your humidity target. Continuous running without measurement is usually unnecessary.
Does a dehumidifier help against mould?
It can reduce high air humidity, but cannot fix leaks, existing damage or cold thermal bridges. The cause of mould must be identified and the affected area treated appropriately.
What humidity level is suitable indoors?
The Federal Environment Agency gives roughly 40â60% relative humidity as a general guide. Condensation can still occur below this range on very cold surfaces.
Do I need Wi-Fi and an app?
No. A suitable humidistat and accessible controls are sufficient for the main function. An app adds convenience together with privacy and support considerations.
Can a compressor unit work in a cold basement?
Extraction falls significantly at low temperatures, with icing and defrost cycles affecting performance. Check the applianceâs technology and minimum temperature for particularly cool spaces.
Can it help dry laundry?
Yes, it can remove moisture evaporating from laundry. Drying also depends on temperature, circulation, placement, textiles and safe condensate drainage.
Is a small tank always worse?
Not necessarily. A small tank may be adequate for occasional use. A larger one reduces emptying frequency but says nothing about efficiency.
Conclusion: choose for the moisture problem
The Bosch Dry 4000 is our editorial all-round recommendation, with straightforward controls and a well-documented independent review. The MeacoDry Arete Two 20L offers detailed manufacturer energy data and optional Wi-Fi controls. The Pro Breeze Premium 20Lâs large tank can suit frequent laundry drying.
None of these models solves a building problem on its own. Measure humidity, identify its source and then select the right class of appliance. This ranking does not describe current Amazon prices or the sellers shown on the platform.
